Our Lady of the Lake and the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation are partnering to provide speech-language evaluations and therapy at OLOL’s Pediatric Development and Therapy Center. The center will see children aged 16 and younger with a variety of developmental delays and disorders, including autism, cerebral palsy, learning disorders, speech disorders, behavioral disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Asperger’s syndrome.
BRSHF’s speech-language pathologist Elise Kaufman will join the center’s staff and work full-time as part of an assessment team led by Dr. Steven Felix. On this team Kaufman will perform approximately 16-20 speech and language evaluations a week and provide speech therapy as needed.
BRSHF has championed its Therapeutic Language Center services for children with communication delays for over 30 years. In 2010, BRSHF served 843 children with language delays, including 10,000 hours of therapy to 33 children on the autism spectrum, and assisted 1,525 audiology patients of all ages, 95 of whom were fit with hearing aids.
