The four announced candidates vying to be Louisiana’s next governor publicly discussed their ideas to address the state’s infrastructure needs in Baton Rouge last month, as well as their views on education in Shreveport earlier this week. And they’re all set to appear at another Baton Rouge panel discussion next month, which will focus on small business issues.
As The Advertiser reports, the next topic of discussion for the candidates will be oil and gas, as all four are set to participate in a panel discussion at the March 13 annual meeting of the Louisiana Oil & Gas Association in Lake Charles. The moderator will be Jason El Koubi, president and CEO of One Acadiana, formerly known as the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. Candidates to appear at the 7:30 a.m. session will be Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle, Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, state Rep. John Bel Edwards and U.S. Sen. David Vitter. Angelle, Dardenne and Vitter are Republicans, and Bel Edwards is a Democrat.
“I look forward to an open and cordial conversation among the candidates. The public needs to hear from each of them on vital topics that are pertinent to the oil and gas industry as well as the entire business community,” El Koubi says.
The primary election is set for Oct. 24. A runoff would be held Nov. 21 if none of the candidates receives a majority of the primary votes. Gov. Bobby Jindal is term-limited.
