A notification filed with the state’s labor agency says a company that offers offshore oil industry services could lay off up to 90 workers at its Houma offices next month. Offshore Specialty Fabricators filed the notice with the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The federal WARN Act requires employers to give their workers and the state 60 days of notice when they plan to lay off a large portion of their workforce.
Keith Martinez, the company’s director of administration, says the number of layoffs is a “high estimate” and that details on any changes in the workforce hadn’t yet been set in stone. Offshore Specialty Fabricators has locations in Houma and Houston. The company’s services include installing and building oil industry production platforms. The company, according to Workforce Commission documents, employs between 450 and 500 people in Houston and Houma.
