A doctor at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge has found that two nonsurgical treatments are effective in treating acid reflux disease. Dr. Louis O. Jeansonne IV wrote an article for Archives of Surgery based on his studies when he was associated with Emory University in Atlanta. Jeansonne discovered that endoluminal therapy, which involves using an endoscope to tighten the junction between the esophagus and the stomach, helped to reduce vomiting. Radiofrequency therapy, which delivers energy waves to the esophagus and the stomach, was helpful in reducing heartburn and swallowing difficulties.
