Ochsner Health Systems is continuing its expansion in the Baton Rouge market with the opening of a clinic in Howell Place in north Baton Rouge. The clinic will have two, full-time primary care providers as well as a rotating bank of specialists. The clinic will be operated out of the Greater Baton Rouge Surgical Hospital, with which it is partnering on the deal. “I think north Baton Rouge is a great market with a lot of patients and a lot of industry,” says Eric McMillen, acting CEO and chief operating officer of Ochsner Medical Center, Baton Rouge. “It’s a market we’re not in today, so we certainly want to be there.” The clinic marks the sixth facility the New Orleans-based Ochsner has opened in Baton Rouge since 2005. Others are located on Jefferson Highway and O’Neal Lane in Baton Rouge—where Ochsner also operates an acute-care hospital—in addition to facilities in Denham Springs, Prairieville and Central. Additionally, Ochsner recently announced plans to open a medical center in Plaquemine in 2014 that will include a clinic, emergency room, outpatient facility, and diagnostic and testing labs. —Stephanie Riegel
