What’s the best way to market Louisiana and all of its uniqueness to the outside world? As The Advertiser reports, it’s a question Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser has been considering since he took office. His answer is the people of Louisiana.

“Our people know Louisiana best and can sell it the best,” he says. “We need you, the people of Louisiana—the best salespeople we have because they are passionate about all the places they’re from—to help open our doors to the world.”

And not just the outside world, he says. He wants to open the eyes of Louisianans who haven’t been beyond New Orleans or their hometown. The way to do this is by making Louisiana residents “ambassadors” for their home state and asking them to capture and share their unique experiences with photos and videos.

“We don’t have the money to promote all the unique things across Louisiana,” says Nungesser, who expects the office to take an additional $1.5 million cut this legislative session. “If we are halfway successful in this program it will help bridge gaps (by attracting more visitors and potential revenue).”

He also expects the #OnlyLouisiana Ambassador Program to make more of an impact than a generic commercial would.

“It’s hard to put those unique experiences into a commercial,” Nungesser said. “But if Louisianans post pictures and videos of Mardi Gras in Mamou and the Gothic jail in DeRidder, it can open eyes beyond the main cities.”
