KENNER (AP) — Officials at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport say a post-Hurricane Katrina record number of passengers flew through the airport in 2010.
Last year’s passenger volume increased about 5% to just over 8.1 million, compared with just under 7.8 million in 2009. In December, passengers boarding and leaving flights totaled about 667,000 — a 4.7% increase over December 2009.
Cargo activity — including freight and mail — was flat over 2009.
Airport officials say the passenger tally was boosted by service to Toronto by Air Canada and Westjet and Frontier Airlines’ service to Denver and Kansas City. AirTran also started service to Milwaukee, while Southwest Airlines started flights to Los Angeles and St. Louis.
