Going up: Heritage Properties of Madison, Mississippi says it has broken ground on an upscale apartment complex in Zachary called Audubon Park. Located at 1233 Mount Pleasant-Zachary Road, the complex will feature a cyber café, fitness center, car wash, resort-style swimming pool, boat parking area and dog park, among other amenities, Heritage says. More than 20 different floorplans will be available in the complex, with apartments ranging from 684 to 1,509 square feet. Some apartment homes in the complex will be two stories and will feature garages with direct entrances to the apartments. Pre-leasing is set to begin this fall, Heritage says.
Now open: Baton Rouge burger fans have another reason to celebrate. Burgersmith, a fast-casual restaurant with roots in Lafayette, has opened its second Baton Rouge location. The new Burgersmith opened Monday at 6212 Siegen Lane. The 3,400-square-foot location is the anchor tenant of a new shopping center on Siegen Lane that’s located adjacent to TJ Ribs. At the restaurant, customers can customize their burgers, choosing everything from type of patty as well as toppings. Burgersmith also offers hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and appetizers. Burgersmith’s original Baton Rouge location is in the Acadian-Perkins Plaza at the corner of Perkins Road and South Acadian Thruway.
Opening soon: Newk’s Eatery can’t get enough of Baton Rouge. The Jackson, Mississippi-based fast-casual chain restaurant will open its second local location on Monday, June 8, at 11 a.m. near the North Gates of the LSU campus. The new location is set in the former Mr. Gatti’s building at 3332 Lake St. The 4,200-square-foot space has room for 150 guests indoor and patio seating for an additional 70 guests. Newk’s offers salads, sandwiches and pizzas. Currently, Newk’s has 80 locations in 13 states. Newk’s opened its first Baton Rouge location in March on Corporate Boulevard near Towne Center. According to a press release, Newk’s has its sights set on a third Baton Rouge location. Plans are still “under review,” the company says.
