They have the technology: An alliance that includes the Woodlawn High School Panthrobotics team has moved on to the World Championships, which will be held at the end of April in St. Louis. The Woodlawn team, which is made up of Gage Acosta, Aaron Hayes, Catherine Morejon, Daniel Salom, Hugo A. Salom Jr. and Brandon Gautreau, helped build a robot named Dunker that can complete several tasks, such as traveling from one end of a field to the other, using a claw to pick up several tubes, placing the tubes on rings, going to a metal pole and releasing a smaller robot that races up the pole. The Woodlawn students were joined by team members from St. Patrick Catholic High School of Biloxi, Miss., and Gulfport (Miss.) High School Technology Center. The group won the Bayou Regional FIRST Robotics competition, held last weekend in Westwego.
Will help with new hires and transfers: The Relocation Center, a St. Francisville-based business that helps people move, has launched a new partnership with Pinnacle Entertainment. The company will be working with new hires and transfers at Pinnacle’s three Louisiana casinos and at the resort the company is currently building on River Road, set for an early 2012 opening.
