Off and running: The Water Institute of the Gulf has formed its science and engineering advisory council, which will independently review the institute’s programs and work. The council comprises nine people with national and international expertise on coastal and deltaic systems research, with several having previously worked on projects specific to the Gulf Coast. In addition to peer review, the group will make recommendations directly to institute President and CEO Chip Groat. See the list, with brief biographies, of advisory council members here.

Home movies: Arnold Molano of Baton Rouge is one of 10 finalists across the country for Apartments.com’s fourth annual nationwide Roommate of the Year video contest. The grand-prize winner, as voted on by the public, gets his or her rent paid for a year and $10,000. The entry by Molano, called “Roommate of the Year ’12,” is a silent movie–style video showcasing how he always pays the rent on time and can even take care of the occasional spider. You can check out all of the finalist videos here and cast your vote through Wednesday.

Back to the drawing board: Shawn Forrest has resigned his position as assistant coach for the LSU men’s basketball team. Head coach Johnny Jones announced today that Forrest was leaving for personal reasons. Forrest joined the coaching staff shortly after Jones was named head coach at LSU in April. Jones says he has already begun a search to replace Forrest on the Tiger coaching staff. “I will move quickly to fill out the coaching staff so we can continue preparations for the coming season,” Jones says in a prepared statement.
