Under contract: Visit Baton Rouge’s board of directors has approved a new contract with Baton Rouge-based MESH Integrated Marketing Advertising to handle marketing and advertising for the tourism promotion agency for five years, beginning Jan. 1 of next year. The contract, the financial details of which were not disclosed, includes creative, print media and web marketing, and media services. The contract was approved by the board at its meeting Thursday.
Here’s the pitch: The Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute will host the annual 90-Second Student Pitch Competition as a precursor to the 2015 Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week set to take place Nov. 16-22. The competition will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 6:15 p.m. in room 1420 of the LSU Business Education Complex. The competition is open to all current LSU students, and the top three winners will be awarded prizes. Registration is open until Nov. 10 and can be completed online.
Don’t delay: The Louisiana Workforce Commission says people who get unemployment benefits by debit card have until Tuesday to change to direct-deposit banking. Those who don’t will get benefits mailed as checks, meaning delays of several days. A news release says the change is required because J.P. Morgan Chase is dropping the prepaid debit cards. Balances remaining on those cards can be used after Oct. 27, but there won’t be any more deposits after that. The commission says unemployment recipients need to immediately update their banking preferences online. If they don’t, they’ll get paper checks mailed to the address on file with the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
