Time to move on: Natalie Howell has been named undersecretary in the Louisiana Department of Revenue, where she will oversee the department’s offices of management and finance, support services and internal auditing. Howell was formerly with the Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corp. in Baton Rouge, where she served as vice president of accounting. She holds a master’s degree from LSU and is a certified public accountant.
Casting the net: The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says commercial licenses can now be renewed online. People who have commercial licenses from the department can renew them at wlf.louisiana.gov/licenses. Until now, commercial licenses could be renewed only by mail or in person at the department’s office in Baton Rouge. The department says the new choice is both more convenient for customers and allows the department to provide quicker service.
Action and reaction: LSU Health Care Services Division announced this morning that it received notification from law enforcement agencies Nov. 14 that one of its employees had been accessing images of a limited number of patients’ checks and possibly using that information in a check fraud scheme. The division says it has cooperated to the fullest extent possible with law enforcement to investigate and says the incident was a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act; it is also conducting its own investigation.
