One of 48 teachers to get honor: Aimee Welch, a math teacher at University High, has been selected as one of 48 teachers to participate in the 2011 U.S.–Japan Teacher Exchange Program for Education for Sustainable Development. The program, sponsored by Fulbright Japan, is a teacher exchange between the two countries. Welch has taught math at U-High for nine years and hopes to bring back knowledge of Japanese culture and original hands-on curricula that teaches students about environmental stewardship. This is the second year in a row a U-High teacher has been selected for the honor: Jennifer Bevill, a technology instructor, participated last year.
New game system to debut in 2012: Nintendo has introduced the world to the Wii’s touchy new big brother: the Wii U. The Japanese gaming giant today unveiled the Wii video game console successor, which will broadcast high-definition video and feature a touchscreen controller that can detect motion and interact with what’s occurring on a television display. The white 6.2-inch touchscreen controller can broadcast standard-definition video and features a directional pad, microphone, dual analog sticks, speakers, two pairs of shoulder buttons and a front-facing camera. Nintendo, which did not announce a price, says the Wii U will be released between April and December next year and will be backward-compatible with Wii games and controllers.
