Service to be introduced to all users: Twitter launched a photo and video search service that lets users own the rights to the photos they post, makes search results more personalized and makes prominent the results of more authoritative tweeters. Dick Costolo, Twitter CEO, unveiled the service today at the “D: All Things Digital” conference. He says the service will be rolled out to all Twitter users in the next couple of weeks. Costolo says the service will eliminate some friction that users face when trying to post images. It will also allow links to videos to be posted, but users won’t be able to upload videos.

Let’s not make a deal: U.S. auto sales cooled off in May as buyers dealt with shortages on dealer lots, higher gas prices and sharply lower incentives. And the deals aren’t likely to come back until the end of this summer. Some experts are advising people to delay their purchases if they can. “If you don’t have to buy, wait until fall. If you lease a car, extend it,” says Edmunds.com chief Jeremy Anwyl. Whatever deals buyers see will be “fleeting,” he says. Consumers heard that message in May. U.S. auto sales were expected to be around 1 million cars and trucks, down 8% from April and 4% from May 2010. General Motors says its sales fell 1.2%, as falling pickup truck sales offset strong sales of more fuel-efficient cars and crossovers. It was the same story at Ford, which saw sales fall 2.4% for the month. Pickup sales fell more than 10% at both companies.
