Another layer: Artist Christopher Turner will be doing a live painting at North Boulevard Town Square Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in conjunction with the filming for MSN’s Appetite for Life with Andrew Zimmern. The painting will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the Capital Area United Way. A jambalaya cook-off benefiting the CAUW is also planned, and food trucks will be donating a portion of proceeds as well.
Top of the hops: Men’s Fitness lists Abita Purple Haze in its “6 surprisingly healthy beers” feature, which you can check out here. “Abita offers a variety of flavorful brews, few as notable as Purple Haze, a raspberry-infused wheat beer,” says the magazine. “Purple Haze is brewed with fresh raspberry puree (providing nutrients and vitamins), added after filtration for a distinctive taste and aroma. What’s best, a serving of Purple Haze has only 128 calories and 11 carbs, pretty respectable stats for something so delicious tasting. Hendrix would be proud.”
Paws, feathers, hooves and gills: Louisiana ranks 15th in The Humane Society of the United States’ third annual “Humane State Ranking,” a comprehensive report rating all 50 states and Washington, D.C., on a wide range of animal protection laws, including animal cruelty codes, equine protection standards, wildlife issues, animals in research, and farm animal policy. California ranked first and Idaho ranked last. The rankings are based on 66 different animal protection issues in 10 major animal protection categories. See the complete rankings here.
