Ring them bells: Teach For America says this fall will mark the first time more than 10,000 first- and second-year corps members will be teaching in high-need classrooms nationwide. Of these, 70 new corps members will join local education efforts in south Louisiana. This fall, a total of 145 first- and second-year Teach For America members will teach in south Louisiana’s highest-need public schools. Collectively, they will reach upwards of 8,000 students, says Teach For America, which recruits and trains college graduates individually to commit two years to teach in high-need schools. More information about Teach For America is available on its website here.

Private practice: Rob Marionneaux, a former Democratic state senator from Grosse Tete, is joining Cornerstone Government Affairs as a senior consultant, the public affairs firm announced this morning. Marionneaux will continue operating his Baton Rouge law firm and will work part-time with Cornerstone. Marionneaux served one term in the Louisiana House of Representatives, and two terms in the Senate. “His experience as a state senator and attorney will be invaluable to our existing client base and should be attractive to companies and organizations seeking representation in Baton Rouge,” says Campbell Kaufman, Cornerstone managing partner of state government relations.

The Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors as benchmarks for passive and active investment strategies. Edgen Group reported annual sales of $1.7 billion in 2011.
