You got to be in it to win it: Artists can begin submitting their works today for Forum 35’s 10th annual Art Melt, the largest multimedia, juried art exhibit in the state, set to open July 20 at the Louisiana State Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. The deadline to make submissions for the art show and arts marketplace is June 1. You can find all the criteria for submitting works online here.
Come together: The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has announced a new partnership with The Information Exchange Workgroup, a collaboration of Louisiana’s petroleum refining and chemical manufacturing industries. The Information Exchange Workgroup was formed to provide information on environmental protection, identify the most common causes of system upsets and malfunctions, and provide expertise from industry leaders on efficiency measures. The workgroup also facilitates the identification and sharing of best management practices and other strategies to minimize emissions. To date, 40 industries throughout the state have participated. No early birds: Don’t show up too early on Saturday to cast your vote in the special election being held in East Baton Rouge Parish to fill Republican state Rep. Clif Richardson’s District 65 seat. A new law that took effect Jan. 1 moved the opening of polling locations later by one hour. Polls henceforth will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Metro Councilman Scott Wilson and businessman Barry Ivey, both Republicans, are vying to fill the seat being vacated by Richardson, who is resigning for health reasons.
