Jumping in: State Sen. Mack “Bodi” White, R-Central, will announce his Baton Rouge mayoral run at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in The Senate Room at the Embassy Suites, 4914 Constitution Ave. For weeks, White has been rumored as a possible candidate for the office, and he filed a campaign finance report for the mayor’s race last week. An invitation to the campaign kickoff sent to business leaders around the area notes that Eddie Rispone, founder and chairman of ISC Constructors, will emcee the event. He will be joined by local Republican State Sens. Steve Carter and Dan Claitor, and Central Mayor Jr. Shelton. White raised $26,500 during the reporting period, and has $46,769 on hand, according to campaign finance reports. The other official candidates in the race are former State Sen. Sharon Weston Broome and Metro Councilman John Delgado.
New representation: Turnout was low, but Democrat Edmond Jordan still soundly defeated East Baton Rouge Parish School Board member and fellow Democrat Vereta T. Lee in Saturday’s special general election for the House District 29 seat. Jordan will fill the void in representation left in the district following the death of state Rep. Ronnie Edwards in late February. According to complete but unofficial election results, Jordan received 60% of voter support, or 2,019 votes. Lee captured 40% of voter support, or 1,368 votes. Unofficial turnout for the election was 12.3%, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State.
Looking for an exit: Many millennials worldwide are planning how they will leave their jobs, according to a recent Deloitte University survey of more than 7,700 millennials in 29 countries. Millennials represent an increasing share of the workforce. But according to fifth global Millennial Survey, younger workers tend to feel that businesses have little ambition beyond earning profits and company loyalty is a thing of the past. Millennials tend to put personal values, such as work life balance and development, over organizational goals. The survey shows two out of three millennials say they intend to leave their companies by 2020. See the full survey results.
