Hardware: Mercedes-Benz of Baton Rouge says it has received a Mercedes-Benz Best of the Best Dealer Recognition Award for its performance in 2012. The awards are handed out each year to the top performing Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the country. “Supported by their exceptional performance, 2012 proved to be one the most successful years in the history of Mercedes-Benz USA,” says company president and CEO Steve Cannon of the Baton Rouge dealership in a prepared statement.
Current affairs: Entergy New Orleans says the cause of the Super Bowl blackout was a faulty device that had been installed to prevent a failure of electric cables leading to the Superdome. The device, called a relay, had been installed to protect the stadium from a cable failure between the company’s incoming power line and lines that run into the stadium. Company officials say the device performed without problem during January’s Sugar Bowl and other earlier events, adding that it has been removed and replacement equipment will be installed.
Hope and prayer: The family of Baton Rouge firefighter Jacob Lewis is asking the city to take a moment today at 2:30 p.m. to pray for Lewis, who went missing in Belle River at approximately 2:30 p.m. 10 days ago. Also, Baton Rouge Firefighter Local 557 will be selling jambalaya and gumbo at the Spanish Town Mardi Gras parade on Saturday in front of the Bogan Fire Museum, 427 Laurel St., with all proceeds going to help the Lewis family. Jacob Lewis, 28, fell into Belle River on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Search parties continue to try to locate him.
