On the job: The St. Gabriel Health Clinic has hired Shirley Freeman Wade as second in command of the clinic. As deputy CEO, Wade will work with clinic administrators to develop new programming that is responsive to market needs, in addition to working with the CEO to supervise care offered at the nonprofit’s six school-based health clinics in the Baton Rouge area. Wade joins the clinic after serving as director of the Student Health Center at Southern University, where she managed a $4.3 million budget, 26 employees and chaired the university’s Student Health Insurance Committee.

Hit the lights: Mid City Merchants is bringing back its annual White Light Night arts festival on Friday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 10 p.m. Since 1998, Mid City businesses have annually opened their doors for the free event, which features works of local art inside shops for people to view and purchase. Original art works are offered for sale tax free during the event. A shuttle will be available again this year to take people to stores up and down Government Street during White Light Night. Nearly 60 businesses, shops and restaurants are participating in this year’s event.

Getting cooking: The Pelican Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors will present a $10,000 donation to Hope House U.S. on Thursday at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center as part of its annual jambalaya and gumbo cook-off. The cook-off is free to the public with the donation of a canned good item to the Baton Rouge Area Food Bank. Hope House U.S. is designed for the rehabilitation of human trafficking victims. The cook-off takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the expo center, 9039 S. St. Landry Ave. in Gonzales.
