Chic happens: Residents of Bossier City, Mandeville and Shreveport may already be familiar with Simply Chic, a chain of fashion boutiques whose individual locations still exude the personalities of their owners and geography. As inRegister reports, Baton Rouge can see for itself what all the fuss is about now that Kelley Miglicco has opened a location on Highland Road. Miglicco says she wants her shop—located in a fast-growing slice of town beside Alexander’s Market, Smoothie King and Zoe’s Kitchen—to be “bigger than business.” She was inspired to live out her dreams of opening her a boutique after suffering the death of her daughter in 2011 and dealing with her son’s open heart surgery in 2013 and her father’s ALS diagnosis. More in store: The Baton Rouge Area Chamber says its Big Think event slated for later this month as part of Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week will feature an opening keynote address by Lipsey’s CEO Laurie Aronson, as well as a closing keynote presentation by Brad Showalter, assistant manager at lululemon athletica in New Orleans. Other additions to Big Think announced today include exhibits by TEDxLSU, the LSU Society of Peer Mentors and Robotics Mentor Society. In the bank: The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority a $10 million grant to replace and modernize the terminal at the New Orleans Canal Street Ferry, The Associated Press reports. The project is one of 39 federally funded transportation projects in 34 states selected to receive a total of $500 million under the Department’s Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery 2015 program. The Canal Street ferry project will replace the existing ferry terminal with a smaller and more modern facility and close the gap in the Riverfront promenade caused by the existing ferry terminal’s configuration.
