Taking the oath: Tom Schedler was sworn in as secretary of state by Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne today at the Secretary of State’s Office in Baton Rouge. Schedler won the election to fill the unexpired term of Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne as well as the four-year term. Schedler became secretary of state in November 2010, when Dardenne won the election to fill the unexpired term of New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
Let’s dance: A pair of tickets to arguably the biggest SEC regular season football game in history will be given away at halftime of the LSU women’s basketball exhibition game against Xavier of Louisiana, which tips off at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Fans must wear their “most spirited” LSU purple and gold gear to the game to qualify for the pair of LSU-Alabama football tickets. A select few of those fans will be chosen to participate in a halftime dance-off promotion in which one fan will then be selected as the winner for the tickets.
The next chapter: Dillard University named 44-year-old Walter Kimbrough as its new president today. Kimbrough, who currently serves as president of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, is scheduled to take over the helm of the historically black college in New Orleans on July 1, 2012. Dillard’s board of trustees picked Kimbrough to replace Marvalene Hughes, who announced in February that she would be leaving the post. Kimbrough served as president of Philander Smith College for seven years. Before that, he served as vice president for student affairs at Albany State University in Albany, Ga., for four years.
