Helping those in need: The Salvation Army will distribute donated goods and supplies to victims of the south Louisiana flooding from noon until 4 p.m. today outside of the old Gap store at Cortana Mall, 9401 Cortana Place. Supplies will again be distributed from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday. The Salvation Army will hand out food boxes, water, cleanup kits, toiletries, diapers and pet supplies. One person per household may pick up supplies, and supplies cannot be picked up for more than one household. Proof of residence—such as a current driver’s license or an electric or water bill—in the affected area must be shown. The Salvation Army is accepting monetary donations by texting STORM to 51555 or by going online.
Counseling available: The Louisiana Business & Technology Center at the LSU Innovation Park is offering business counseling to flood-impacted companies and is assisting companies with filling out applications and connecting with the proper agencies during their time of need. The LBTC, which also provided business disaster counseling after hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Ike, has been working with Louisiana Economic Development and Secretary Don Pierson to offer advice to businesses impacted by the recent flooding. Call (225) 578-7555 for more information, for a consultation or to find out about available workspaces for displaced businesses.
Coordinating efforts: The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations will host a disaster recovery panel meeting open to all nonprofit organizations in the state today in Baton Rouge.
