Defensive end signs deal: The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with their top draft pick, defensive end Cameron Jordan. Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and Jordan’s agent, Doug Hendrickson of Octagon, confirmed the deal. The four-year contract is worth around $7.7 million, Hendrickson says. The 6-foot-4, 297-pound Jordan, who is the son of former Pro Bowl tight end Steve Jordan, was taken 24th overall out of California. Cam Jordan was the last of the Saints’ six draft picks to agree to terms. As a senior at Cal, he was credited with 62 tackles, 12.5 stops for losses and 5.5 sacks while forcing three fumbles. He also was named a first-team Pac-10 last year. The Saints have drafted Jordan with the hope of bolstering a pass rush that finished last season tied for 18th in the NFL in sacks.
Carencro representative had been targeted by GOP: A state lawmaker from Carencro who was arrested last year for drunken driving says he isn’t running for re-election this fall. Democratic Rep. Bobby Badon announced his decision today, saying he will leave the state House in January after one term in office. Badon says the expansion of his business and farming interests is taking time away from his ability to represent constituents in office. The lawmaker’s district covers Lafayette, St. Landry and St. Martin parishes. Badon had been targeted by the Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority, led by Sen. David Vitter. Don Menard, a former St. Landry Parish President and recent Republican convert, is expected to run for the seat. Badon was arrested in 2010 for a first-offense DWI. Police said his breath sample showed a blood alcohol content above the legal limit. He had been stopped for improper lane usage. The charge was thrown out earlier this year by a judge who ruled there was no basis for the traffic stop.
