Ducks deserve a ring (as a gift from Miles): Along with most other sports writers, Sports Illustrated columnist Andy Staples is singing the praises of the LSU defense following Thursday night’s 19-6 win over Mississippi State. Staples says the Tigers’ defense could very well have the team bound for a BCS Championship in New Orleans in January. If LSU does end up hoisting the crystal football, Staples says, Miles ought to send Oregon coach Chip Kelly a championship ring. Find out why here.

N.O. takes top travel ranking: Travel + Leisure magazine readers have ranked New Orleans No. 1 in its annual “America’s Favorite Cities” survey in a number of categories, including neighborhood joints and cafés, singles/bar scene, cocktail hour, people watching, and New Year’s Eve celebrations. It probably won’t shock many to see the Crescent City didn’t get high marks in the categories of cleanliness, physical activities and family vacation merits. Surprisingly, it’s got nothing to do with the Tigers: In a move to preserve the taste and vitamin content of its milk, Kleinpeter Farms Dairy is now available in nontransparent gold milk cartons in order to protect the milk from exposure to fluorescent light, which can affect taste in as brief a time as twenty minutes and degrade vitamins within two hours, according to a Cornell University study. Kleinpeter says the added cost of between four and 10 cents per container, depending on the size of the container, will not be passed on to consumers.
