Crowdsourcing: Baton Rouge-based Puryear IT has launched a contest to help the company come up with an innovative domain name for its new website. According to a news release, the Puryear IT team believes its current domain name isn’t user friendly and that it’s time for a revamp. Contestants are encouraged to submit creative, user-friendly domain names by July 29 for a chance to win a dinner for two and a $1,000 donation to a charity of the winner’s choice. Ideas can be submitted online.

Call for coverage: Officials are urging Louisiana homeowners to purchase flood insurance now rather than waiting until August and September, the most active months for hurricanes, to seek flood coverage, The Courier reports. FEMA officials warn that policies purchased through the National Flood Insurance Program do not take effect until 30 days after purchase—so waiting for a storm to enter the Gulf of Mexico will not help those would could need coverage. Jeanne Salvatore, the Insurance Information Institute’s senior vice president for public affairs, says roughly 20% of all flood claims come from moderate-to-low flood risk areas. Listed: Three local restaurants are listed among the Top 100 leading independent restaurants in state capitals throughout the United States, according to FSR magazine, an industry publication. City Pork Brasserie and Bar, Juban’s and Ruffino’s made the list. The magazine requested nominations from local and state restaurant associations. Recommendations were based on each restaurant’s food, beverage, hospitality, community engagement and efforts to give back. According to the magazine, the average check at City Pork Brasserie and Bar is roughly $38 while average checks at Juban’s and Ruffinos are $49 and $50, respectively. See the full list.
