Speak out: People who rely on the state for health care services and education programs are getting their turn to tell lawmakers their concerns about the threat of deep budget slashing next year. The House Appropriations Committee has done its department-by-department review of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s spending and cut recommendations. On Tuesday, The Associated Press reports, it’s the start of public testimony, with two days set aside for the state’s citizens to talk about their budget worries. To close a $1.6 billion budget gap in the $24 billion budget, Jindal proposes cuts across state agencies. He also relies on more than $500 million in tax break changes that are uncertain to pass. Even then, higher education would take a more than $200 million reduction.
Action! In its latest update on the filming projects coming up in the state, Louisiana Entertainment confirms that Magnificent Seven will be shot in Baton Rouge beginning next month. The MGM film, which is to be directed by Antoine Fuqua and is a remake of the 1960 Western film The Magnificent Seven, will bring a bevy of star power to Baton Rouge. Starring Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, the film will be shot over 64 days in Baton Rouge beginning May 18, Louisiana Entertainment says.
Birds of a feather: Duck Dynasty star and Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson told Fox News Radio on Monday that he wants to see Gov. Bobby Jindal jump into the 2016 presidential race, adding Jindal will have his vote should he choose to run. ““That guy is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met in my life, and he’s run things, he’s run the state of Louisiana even at a young age,” Robertson said on the show. “He’s got the values.
