Breaking it down: The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana has released its 2017 Constitutional Amendments Guide, which explains the potential impact of the three proposed amendments voters will consider on the Oct. 14 ballot. PAR says the guide is strictly educational, adding it does not recommend how to vote. “It offers concise analysis and provides arguments of proponents and opponents,” PAR says. The amendments concern how property tax assessors should deal with construction work, whether surviving spouses of some first responders should be exempt from property tax and if a special transportation fund should be created in anticipation of future new fuel tax revenue. Fun for all ages: Activities ranging from low impact yard games and crafts to a climbing wall and skateboarding contest are all on tap during a family fun day at Perkins Road Community Park on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. BREC says the event will include a Family Fun Fair from 10 a.m. to noon at the park, 7122 Perkins Road, while a Ride ‘N’ Roll event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. All events are free.

On the down low: Though the average price of gas has risen at record rate over the past two weeks, industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that Baton Rouge has the nation’s lowest average, at $2.31 per gallon. In the latest survey on Friday, the average price of regular gasoline in the U.S. was up 30 cents at $2.69 per gallon. That’s 48 cents higher than a year ago—and the biggest  price hike recorded by the Lundberg Survey since 2011. Prices have started to decline since refineries came back online after Hurricane Harvey and Lundberg expects prices at the pump will follow. In the latest survey, gas in the contiguous U.S. was most expensive in San Francisco, at $3.21 per gallon.
