Now open: Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital has opened a pediatric specialty clinic in the St. Elizabeth Hospital Physician Medical Office at 2647 S. St. Elizabeth Boulevard, Suite 220. It will offer diagnosis and treatment for such conditions as asthma, food and environmental allergies, sinusitis, skin rashes and ear infections, among others. Dr. Theron McCormick is the board certified specialist at the clinic, offering allergy and immunology treatment for children ranging from newborns to teenagers. All lit up: A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, 9039 S. St. Landry Ave. in Gonzales, at 9 a.m. Wednesday for the center’s new 75,000-square-foot solar energy and lighting project. The project will provide roughly 440 megawatt hours of clean electricity each year, and the new LED lights will illuminate the path around the nearby lake. A total of 1,056 solar panels are included in the full system, while 2,506 new LEDs will light the path around the lake at the expo center. Speakers at the ribbon cutting will include Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez, as well as Jennifer Vosburg of NRG Energy.
High five: A new analysis of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data by website SelfStorage.com shows Baton Rouge is ranked fifth among America’s 100 largest metro areas for improvements to its air quality. According to the report, the percentage of good days for air quality in Baton Rouge was 50.1% in 2014—up from 26.3% in 2010. New Orleans is ranked No. 4 on the list. The top three cities are St. Louis; Akron, Ohio; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. See the full report and rankings.
