Expanding footprint: Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital today opened a pediatric specialty clinic in Lafayette, marking its first such facility outside of the Baton Rouge area. OLOL says the Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Lafayette offers specialized care for pediatric gastroenterology, with the possible addition of other services in the future. The clinic is located at 5000 Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Suite 101. It will offer diagnoses and treatment for children, ranging from newborns to teenagers, with digestion and gastrointestinal issues.
Detour ahead: Utility work at the intersection of Joor and Gurney roads is behind schedule because of weather, which has delayed the previously planned closure of the intersection. The utility work, which the city-parish notes must be completed by ATT and its contractors, was supposed to be completed by April 19, but it remains ongoing. The work was set to shutter the intersection as of Monday this week, but the roadway will instead be closed on Monday, June 8. It will remain closed until around the start of the school year in early August, weather permitting, the city-parish says in a news release.
All together now: More than 5,000 Louisiana educators, representing every school in the state, gathered today at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans for the third annual Louisiana Teacher Leader Summit. The Teacher Leader initiative is a nationally recognized effort to ensure classroom educators are making decisions and visibly leading academic changes in the state. This year, the summit included roughly 250 professional development sessions, with topics including challenging standards and curriculum, unifying the early childhood system and Jump Start career pathways, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Education.
