A work of art: An exhibition of the designs Trahan Architects did for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Regional History Museum will be on display this week at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. The exhibit is tied to the National AIA Conference in New Orleans. The sports hall of fame is under construction in Natchitoches and set to open in 2012.
Starting a buzz: Despite uncertainty about the Hornets’ ownership or their future in New Orleans, support for the basketball team appears to be building among fans and businesses in Louisiana. The club has sold about 8,000 full-season tickets for 2011-12, up from about 6,300 for 2010-11. The team’s senior vice president, Matt Biggers, says that increase in season ticket holders is “really a good sign.” Biggers says some credit goes to the “I’m in” campaign, which asks fans to see the club, not just as a basketball team, but as a community asset. Biggers cites other signs of growing community support, including a 38% increase in TV viewers of Hornets games over the previous season. The NBA bought the Hornets in December and is trying to sell the club, preferably to local owners.
