Backing Billy: The actor and environmental activist Kevin Costner has posted a video supporting Republican Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser in his race against Republican incumbent Jay Dardenne for lieutenant governor, The Times-Picayune reports. In a video taped in Copenhagen, Denmark, the actor wishes Nungesser the best, saying, “It is not so much that I am against the other person … but absolutely for you.” Costner was active in seeking ways to help clean up oil in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP oil spill last year. For his part, Nungesser was a regular on nightly news during the crisis, complaining about the lack of response from the federal government. See the video here.
Join together: ABC News and Yahoo are partnering in an attempt to deliver more digital news content to their audiences. With the deal, the companies say, ABC News content will be prominently featured on the Yahoo News website and the Yahoo home page. ABC made the announcement today on its Good Morning America program. The two news organizations have a combined online audience of more than 100 million people in the U.S. Yahoo News is the most visited news website in the world. The companies will also work together on selling advertising as part of the deal. The companies say ABC News will maintain editorial control of its sites and Yahoo will keep control of its sites. ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co.
Golden: LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Tigers’ 35-7 win against Kentucky on Saturday. Montgomery led the LSU defense with six total tackles, two for losses, including 1.5 sacks. He was key to an LSU defense that held Kentucky to just 155 total yards, 70 of which came after the Tigers built a 35-0 lead late in the fourth quarter. LSU held Kentucky to only 45 first-half yards and just two completions in taking a 14-0 lead by halftime. The Tigers retained their No. 1 ranking in the AP poll following the win and are now preparing for Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. game against the No. 17 Florida Gators in Tiger Stadium.
