Will take care of St. James facility: Nucor, which is building an iron and steel plant in St. James Parish, has signed deals with Vale SA, Samarco and Iron Ore Co. of Canada to supply iron ore for the facility. Nucor also signed a 20-year contract with an undisclosed company to provide natural gas to the Convent plant.

Good gifts sought for dad: Father’s Day spending is expected to reach a new record this year. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers say they will spend an average of $106.49 on gifts for dad this year, the most in the eight-year history of the survey. That compares with the projections of $94.32 for Father’s Day 2010. Total spending for the holiday is expected to top $11.1 billion, with $2.1 billion being spent on special outings, like golf trips, meals and going to the movies. The NRF notes that Father’s Day spending is starting to narrow the gap with Mother’s Day, which hit an average of $140.73 this year.
