Naming names: BRSocMe, a local social media association, is accepting nominations for its second annual awards presentation. The SoMes will recognize companies, brands, people, websites or products for best use of social media in 10 different categories. Nominations are being accepted through Monday here. An awards ceremony is planned for Thursday, Feb. 7, at Boudreaux & Thibodeaux’s, 214 Third St.
Looking good: Print magazine, a bimonthly industry publication about visual culture and design, has named an advertising campaign by Baton Rouge-based Wright Feigley Communications among the top 48 in the South. The firm’s winning design is for a campaign it completed for the Louisiana Center for Nursing, and is included in Print‘s 2012 Regional Design Annual, which is in its 32nd year and is billed as “the most comprehensive survey of graphic design in the United States.”
High water everywhere: Cajun Constructors Inc. of Baton Rouge has been awarded a $44.8 million, 48-month contract for concrete-covered canals along two New Orleans streets. The Army Corps of Engineers says the canals will reduce the risk of damages from the equivalent of about nine inches of rain over 24 hours. Such storms have a 10% chance of happening in New Orleans in any given year. The corps says work on about 1,500 feet of canals should begin in late March or early April.
