A taste of old New York: The former Schlotzky’s Deli at 8190 Jefferson Hwy. has been leased and will soon be occupied by Mama Della’s N.Y. City Pizzeria. Barry Kalt, Mama Della’s owner and a native of New York City, brings 45 years of industry experience to the restaurant. Menu items will include authentic New York City–style pizza, calzones, and hot and cold Italian hero sandwiches. Kalt is aiming to have the restaurant open in December, says Carmen Austin of Saurage Rotenberg Real Estate, who brokered the deal.

At the market: Red Stick Farmers Market will host a special Thanksgiving market on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 7248 Perkins Road from 8 a.m. to noon. More than 14 growers and market food artisans will be on hand to provide special ingredients for Thanksgiving. The Perkins Road market, which is usually open on Thursdays, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Shoppers can also find a large selection of fresh items at the Red Stick Farmers Market located at Fifth and Main Streets this Saturday, Nov. 19, from 8 to noon. On the market: Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc. says its public stock offering, which raised about $241.5 million before expenses for building ships, has closed. The Covington company provides supplies to offshore oil and gas operations. It sold 8.1 million shares of common stock for $30 each. Hornbeck plans to use the proceeds to fund construction of new offshore supply vessels. It could also use the money to pay for future acquisitions and additional new vessel construction, as well as for general corporate purposes, the company says.

A movie and book in two days: Man in the Glass: The Dale Brown Story, a documentary about LSU’s legendary basketball coach, will officially launch on Thursday. The documentary chronicles Brown’s 40-plus years in the NCAA, his integration of the basketball program, the Lester Earl saga and his decades-long relationships with John Wooden, Tim Brando and Shaquille O’Neal. The film won Best Director and Award of Excellence at the 2011 Los Angeles Movie Awards, as well as the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2011 Sidewalk Film Festival and was an official entry at the 2011 New Orleans Film Festival. The cast includes Shaquille O’Neal, Matthew McConaughey, Tim Brando, Don Yaeger, Dick Gregory, Dick Vitale, Ricky Blanton, Rudy Macklin, Collis Temple and the iconic John Wooden, with music by Wynton Marsalis.
