Walking through New Orleans: Prevention magazine says history and lovely old houses make New Orleans one of the nation’s top 25 cities for walking. The magazine says its findings are based on a survey made with the American Podiatric Medical Association and Sperling’s BestPlaces, a resource for destination facts. It chose the cities based on 19 criteria, including population density per square mile, use of mass transit, crime rates, and square miles of local and state parks. New Orleans is No. 22. San Francisco, where 12 government agencies offer help to walkers, tops the list.
Can’t get away: Thirty-four percent of employed Americans say they won’t use up all of their vacation days this year, an increase over the 31% who had unused leave time last year. According to the Expedia.com survey of more than 1,500 people, American workers will give back an average of three vacation days. The most common reasons for not using all available vacation time is work pressure and economic stress.
