Board member recused himself: The LSU Board of Supervisors has agreed to turn over operations of university-run hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe to the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana, The Associated Press reports. LSU board member Dr. John George is vice chairman of the board and interim president of the research foundation, but didn’t vote on the agreement and walked out for the discussion. He’s seeking an opinion from the state ethics board about whether he can maintain his LSU board position and his job with the research foundation at the same time.
Honoring trailblazers: The Kress Gallery at Third and Main streets is holding a luncheon Thursday, 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., to commemorate a 1960 civil rights sit-in by Southern University students. A documentary film about the protest will be shown, and an original painting by artist Taufeeq “Feeq” Muhammad will be unveiled. Plan accordingly: The inside/left lane of Interstate 12 Westbound between La. 441 and La. 63 will close Thursday between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. while workers perform guardrail repair. There is no official detour, as the outside/right lane will remain open, but state officials say U.S 190 is a potential alternate route.
