Kansas City route in the works: Additional airline service is coming into New Orleans later this year. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport says Delta Connection will begin daily nonstop service to Kansas City on June 6. Moreover, Southwest Airlines will increase its service to two current destinations, with three daily nonstop flights to Nashville, Tenn., and Baltimore-Washington beginning Oct. 3.
Deal to buy 38 acres up for consideration: The Chennault International Airport Authority wants to expand the Lake Charles airport’s operating area by several dozen acres. The authority board on Wednesday will vote on whether to give Randy Robb, executive director, the OK to enter into a purchase-sale agreement for 29 acres at Broad Street and Sen. J. Bennett Johnston Avenue, along with nine acres north of the avenue. The board must pass a resolution because a state grant will be used to pay for the property. Robb says the 29 acres will be allocated for Chennault’s runway protection zone. The property was appraised at about $580,000, and the state grant could contribute as much as $500,000, Robb says. The city of Lake Charles plans to invest nearly $80,000 in the expansion, with the option of purchasing a section for development.
