Getting back in the game: Baton Rouge-based baseball bat maker Marucci Sports has hired former Louisville Slugger executive Chuck Schupp to head up the company’s Major League Baseball player operations. Schupp, who retired from Louisville Slugger in 2014, brings 35 years of clubhouse experience to the job, Marucci executives say in a prepared release. “I am looking forward to being back in the clubhouses with Marucci, renewing old relationships, gaining some new ones, and strengthening Marucci’s already stellar big league relations,” Schupp says in a news release, which has more details on the announcement.
Top honors: Restaurateur and chef John Besh and commercial real estate developer James Maurin have been named Entrepreneurs of the Year by Tulane University. The A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane will honor Besh and Maurin at the annual Tulane Council of Entrepreneurs Award Gala today. Maurin, co-founder and retired chairman and CEO of Stirling Properties, has been named Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year. Besh is the Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the Year. National leader: Karen Puckett, president of global markets for Monroe-based CenturyLink, has been named one of the 50 most powerful women in technology by the National Diversity Council. As Gannett Louisiana reports, Puckett joined CenturyLink in 2000 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and was among the executives who have overseen the company’s elevation to a Fortune 500 technology company.
