Getting closer: Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards has assembled a transportation transition committee and given it one large mandate—restore trust to the Transportation Trust Fund and stop others from raiding that fund, Edwards announced Monday in a news release. The committee is also tasked with finding ways to address the $12 billion road construction project backlog and for the state to commit 25% of the capital outlay budget for road construction projects. Edwards also announced the formation of a public safety transition committee that will be tasked with addressing the use of Louisiana State Police in New Orleans, and how to fund trooper salaries and retirement from outside the capital outlay budget. Gannett Louisiana has more on the committee and a full list of members.
