Back to Baton Rouge? LSU baseball star Mikie Mahtook, a first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in this summer’s baseball draft, still hasn’t inked a contract with the club with hours only remaining before the signing deadline. If the Rays can’t sign Mahtook by 11 p.m. today, he will return to Baton Rouge for his senior year. Mahtook, a junior outfielder from Lafayette, led the SEC in every offensive category at one point or another this season. LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri told Louisiana Gannett News he expects Mahtook to turn pro and forgo one last season in Baton Rouge. “Stranger things have happened,” Mainieri told the news service, referring to the possibility that Mahtook would return to LSU. “But I’m anticipating he’s going to sign.”
Good life: Louisville, Colo., has been named the best place to live in America by Money magazine. The Denver suburb topped the annual list this year on the basis of its strong local economy, low crime rate and top-notch schools. No Louisiana cities made the Money list, which is based on factors that include job opportunities, fiscal strength, good health care, and cultural and outdoor activities. See the full list here.
