Saturday night’s alright: LSU will play a fourth straight night game in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 29, as ESPNU will televise the Tigers’ non-conference game against Towson, the SEC announced today. Kickoff between LSU and Towson is slated for 6 p.m. Towson, which will be making its first trip to Tiger Stadium, is currently 1-1 overall and ranked No. 12 in the nation in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly 1-AA). It will mark the first time since 2009 that LSU’s first four home games will carry a night kickoff. LSU returns to action this week against Auburn, which also kicks off at 6 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
It’s only natural: In what should come as a surprise to no one, Mike Walker—the lone Republican in the mayoral race—has picked up the endorsement of the Republican Party of Louisiana. Two-time incumbent Kip Holden is a Democrat, while Gordon Mese and Steve Myers are not affiliated with any party. You can read the complete endorsement at Walker’s campaign website here.
Freeze out: Shell has abandoned its plans to drill for oil in Arctic waters this summer, after it became clear this weekend that a critical oil spill vessel would not be ready in time, The Houston Chronicle reports. The decision caps a series of setbacks that have whittled down the small drilling window in the icy waters and forced Shell to pare its own plans to complete at least five wells in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas north of Alaska. Now, the company is admitting it will not complete a single well in the region this year and will not seek to penetrate underground zones that could contain oil and gas. Read the full story here.
