Let it ring: Three LSU students have been chosen to help ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange today, KPLC-TV reports. LSU business students Daniel Wendt, Madison Nixon and Christian Vardaman are among a dozen winners of TD Ameritrade’s NextGen scholarship competition. Winners each get a $5,000 scholarship, a trip to New York City, a tour of the exchange and the opportunity to take part in the closing bell event. The 21-year-old Wendt, a graduate of Denham Springs High School, is studying finance at LSU and plans to become a personal financial planner after graduation. Nixon and Vardaman, both seniors, are also studying finance at the LSU E.J. Ourso College of Business.

Opening soon: Nordstrom Rack has announced on its website that it will open its first Louisiana location in Baton Rouge’s Mall of Louisiana on Oct. 1. The discount store announced in October of last year that it be will moving into the Mall of Louisiana outparcel that is also home to Dick’s Sporting Goods, DSW and Lane Bryant. Nordstrom Rack, the off-price retail division of Nordstrom Inc., is scheduled to open in a 30,000-square-foot space. The company’s website says a second Louisiana location, in Lafayette, will open next spring.

Flag flap: The Confederate battle flag may have cost two Turner Industries employees in Decatur, Alabama, their jobs, WHNT-TV in Huntsville reports. The men claim they were fired from their jobs this week for refusing to remove the flag from their vehicles. Officials with Turner Industries, which is based in Baton Rouge, declined to make any comment and have referred all questions to their corporate attorney. WHNT-TV reports it has called the attorney a number of times but has not had any calls returned. Phillip Sims and a second unidentified worker, who asked the TV station not to be named, say they were fired. Read the full story.
