Honored: LSU College of Education Associate Professor R. Kenton Denny has been named the Louisiana Council for Exceptional Children’s Higher Education Professional of the Year. Denny works with students with severely challenging behavior, as well as their teachers and schools. He serves on numerous state level advisory committees and manages multiple grants designed to support school-based services to students with disabilities and their families. Denny was recognized at the LACEC Awards Ceremony at the Louisiana Super Conference at the Cajundome Conference Center on Monday, Jan. 30.

Busted: The Louisiana Workforce Commission has created a toll-free hotline and a web portal that it says provides a simpler, more efficient way for people to report suspected fraud related to unemployment insurance or workers’ compensation. People now can report fraud by calling 800-201-3362, or by visiting here and clicking on the “Report Fraud” tab. In the past nine months, LWC says 73 people have been arrested on warrants accusing them of fraud against the unemployment insurance program, and another 13 face similar charges against the workers’ compensation system.

‘Tis the season: Two Lafayette men have launched a website and iPhone app entirely dedicated to Louisiana crawfish. Thecrawfishguy.com and The Crawfish Guy app, available via the site, allow you to search for crawfish by selecting from a number of criteria, and give the various prices. The site is the brainchild of Jeremy Boykin and Danny Smith, and Baton Rouge firm Framework IT developed it and the app.
