Work completed after four and a half years: LSU officials on Friday will mark the formal opening of the $83 million expansion and renovation to the LSU Union. Work on the project started in September 2006. The work involved adding 40,000 square feet to the student center and renovating nearly two-thirds of the building. The Union Theater was overhauled and new food vendors were added. This was the first renovation to the Union since it opened in 1964.
Will select Acadiana representative: An April special election date has been set to fill an open Acadiana-area seat in the Louisiana House. The vacancy will be created by the resignation of state Rep. Jonathan Perry, a Republican who was elected to the state Senate. Perry moves to his Senate seat March 10. House Speaker Jim Tucker says the primary election will be held April 30 and the general election, if needed, will be May 28. Qualifying will begin March 16 and end March 18. The District 47 seat includes Cameron and part of Vermilion parishes.
