On the agenda: The LSU Faculty Senate will vote at its meeting next month on a resolution calling for the censure of LSU President F. King Alexander, Provost Stuart Bell and College of Human Sciences and Education Dean Damon Andrew regarding the university’s controversial June 19 firing of Associate Professor Teresa Buchanan. The LSU Faculty Senate discussed the resolution at its meeting Wednesday. LSU on Tuesday released what it says will be its final public statement on the matter, defending the firing. The resolution—which the LSU Faculty Senate will take up again at its Oct. 6 meeting—also calls on LSU to reverse its decision to fire Buchanan.
Remote control: Gonzales-based EATEL is expanding its HomeIQ residential automated security service to include business uses. Called ZoneIQ, EATEL says the Internet-based security system enables business owners to monitor and control vital office functions while receiving alerts on specific activities status, all from any mobile device. Along with security, the service also provides business owners the ability remotely adjust lighting and temperature in the office. The service can also be customized for further remote control for features such as smart door locks, infrared cameras, motion detectors and image sensors. EATEL says the new service is being sold separately and as a bundle with existing business phone, Internet and TV services. Service plans start at $24.95 per month.
It’s a deal: Lafayette-based LHC Group Inc., a national provider of post-acute healthcare services, announced this morning that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Cumming, Georgia-based Halcyon Hospice for approximately $58.5 million in cash. Halcyon is one of the largest independent providers of hospice services in the southeastern U.S., with 16 hospice locations in Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina and approximately 400 employees. The company’s annual revenue is approximately $41 million. Upon completion of the deal, which is expected to occur on Oct. 1, LHC Group will have 53 hospice locations across 12 states and about $110 million in annual revenue.
