Taking the lead: LSU-Alexandria has a new chancellor. The Associated Press reports LSU President F. King Alexander announced in a news release today that Guiyou Huang would take over the chancellor’s post on Jan. 1. Huang is currently the senior vice president for academic affairs, dean of the faculty and professor of English at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. LSU conducted a national search for the new LSUA chancellor, led by a committee composed of LSUA faculty, staff, students and leaders from the community. Huang replaces Dan Howard, who had served as chancellor of LSUA from March 2014 through August of this year.
A new high: The Dow Jones industrial average eclipsed 19,000 today for the first time in its 120-year history. USA Today reports the Dow in morning trading rose as high as 58 points to hit a new intraday record high of 19,014.73. It has since traded back below the milestone. Dow’s 19,000 mark is the latest signal that the rally sparked by Donald Trump’s surprise presidential election win is broadening as investors continue to bet on the prospects for a more investor- and business-friendly administration. Without a trace: Store-brand aloe vera products at Target, Wal-Mart and CVS are missing evidence of the actual plant, Bloomberg reports. Samples of store-brand aloe gel purchased at the three national retailers show no indication of the aloe plant in various lab tests. The products all listed aloe barbadensis leaf juice—another name for aloe vera—as either the No. 1 ingredient or No. 2 after water. But aloe’s three chemical markers—acemannan, malic acid and glucose—were absent in the tests for Wal-Mart, Target and CVS products conducted by a lab Bloomberg hired to run the tests. The gel that’s sold at Walgreens contained one marker, malic acid, but not the other two. Target Corp. declined to comment for the story. Spokesmen for Wal-Mart Stores, CVS Health Corp. and Walgreens Boots Alliance say their suppliers confirmed to them that their products were authentic. Read the full story.
