Coming to a theater near you: The Louisiana International Film Festival has announced its full slate of films for the upcoming inaugural festival to be held later this month. More than 50 films will be screened at venues in Baton Rouge and New Orleans on April 18-21. Those films range from state premieres to recent releases and cult classics. Some of the announced films include The Iceman starring Ray Liotta and Michael Shannon; the critically acclaimed Gimme the Loot, and the latest animated spectacle from Hayao Mayazaki, From Up on Poppy Hill. 225 has more details and the full lineup here.
Going green: The Louisiana Earth Day 2013 celebration scheduled to take place in downtown Baton Rouge on Sunday, April 21, will be among the nation’s largest environmental festivals, organizers say. It will feature hands-on educational activities from noon until 5 p.m., and live entertainment on several stages from noon until 8:30 p.m. This year’s music lineup includes Wayne Toups; Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie; Royal Southern Brotherhood featuring Cyril Neville, Devon Allman and Mike Zito; Bag of Donuts; Kenny Cornett & Killin’ Time; Pine Leaf Boys; and the Mulligan Brothers. Another addition downtown: If you’d like to check out Baton Rouge’s newest park over your lunch break today, head over to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Repentance Park downtown, scheduled for noon. Located adjacent to the North Boulevard Town Square and next to the Old State Capitol, the $3.9 million park features an arc walkway with seating, fountains with 750 jets, a sloping lawn and tiered steps.
