Paid in cash: A Charlotte, North Carolina, startup is offering homebuyers and sellers cash backing in case their mortgage doesn’t go through, essentially underwriting potential sales as a lender would without actually being a lender. Ribbon fronts cash to homebuyers, charging them 1.95% of the purchase price so they can close a sale quickly, helping them compete in the case of bidding wars, CNBC reports. Road trip: AAA predicts more than 41.5 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles over Memorial Day weekend, which would be the highest travel volume since 2005 and up 5% from last year. With close to 2 million more people on the roads than usual, INRIX, a global transportation analytics company, expects travel delays on major roads could be up to three times longer than normal, with the worst traffic on Thursday and Friday as travelers blend with commuters. Drivers are also expected to pay the highest Memorial Day gas prices since 2014, since prices hit an average of $2.72 in April, 30 cents higher than last year. In Louisiana, gas prices average $2.57 right now, nearly 40 cents higher than a year ago.
