Quite a haul: Louisiana seafood ranked 10th in the United States in total economic impact generated from seafood sales in 2011, according to a National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service report. As The Times-Picayune reports, the total economic impact includes variables such as employment, labor income and sales—including imported seafood sales—not only for commercial fishers but also for processors, suppliers, grocers and restaurants. The Louisiana seafood industry’s total economic impact was $1.8 billion, the report states. California led the way with an economic impact of about $20 billion. The full story can be found here.
In the pocket: Baltimore Ravens quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco may have recently signed the largest contract in the NFL at $120.6 million over six years—or about $20.1 million per year—but the Americans for Tax Reform group says New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is still earning more after taxes. That’s because Flacco is subject to a higher tax rate in Maryland than Brees, who’s contract pays him about $20 million per year, does in Louisiana.
